Study of the new Google Play Store data safety section revealed that 55.2% of the mobile apps openly admit to sharing your data. The study revealed that shopping, business, and food & drink were among the app categories that share the most user data.
The problem stems from developers failing to remove the Twitter API keys they use for authentication from the app before they release it to the public. This creates the possibility of account hijacking.
Over 813,000 apps have been removed from the Apple App Store and Google Play in the first half of 2021. The vast majority (86%) were targeting children and over half had dangerous permissions or no privacy policy.
More stringent data collection rules went into effect in China at the beginning of May. The government continued to show that it is serious about its regulatory stance by sweeping up 33 mobile apps.
