UEFA Champions League 2024/2025 Bettors’ Preview: What are the Early Odds Like?

Once the football season starts, there is no shortage of games to watch and bet on every single day. Although most are played between Fridays and Sundays, there are usually games during the week too every few weeks or so. However, everything changes once the most prestigious club competition in the world starts, the famed UEGA Champions League. It is the epitome of club football, a trophy that every player dreams of winning. Some are lucky enough to win it multiple times, while others only get a chance to appear in the final game once.

What makes this competition so difficult to win is the fact that you qualify for it through your domestic league, of which only the best have a lot of spots. English, Spanish, German, and  French have the most at 4, followed by the Netherlands with 3. The rest of the leagues only have one or two, or even none, and have to therefore go through the lengthy qualification process. With the 2024/2025 UCL season, however, there are a lot of changes and a ton to be excited about. Both for the teams and the fans, it is bound to be one for the ages.

A Brand New Format

This season is the first under a completely new competition format, the long-awaited revamp of the group stage that will now be its own actual league. There will be 4 more teams, a jump from 32 to 36. Each team will play 8 games, two more compared to the previous format where they played 2 against every team in the group (4 teams per group). This is not all, as they will be ranked in a joint group, a 36-club league with standings like domestic leagues have. Together with the new rule where away goals no longer matter, this year’s UCL season is bound to be a historic one in every sense of the word. Fans and sports betting enthusiasts should also be prepared for something new with more games than ever and crypto football betting at its all-time high.

Qualified Teams

So far, we know 29 qualified teams for the 2024/2025 UCL season. There are 14 teams still trying to qualify for the 7 remaining spots and will play their games in the upcoming days. Like before, there are 4 pots based on the previous successes of the qualified teams. Pot 1 contains the absolute best, Pot 2 the runner-ups and the champions of lesser leagues, and Pot 3 and 4 are made up of qualified teams. The club coefficient is the main factor here.

In the first pot, there are Real Madrid, Manchester City, Bayern Munich, PSG, Liverpool, Inter, Borussia Dortmund, RB Leipzig, and Barcelona. In Pot 2, we have Bayer Leverkusen, Atletico Madrid, Atalanta, Juventus, Benfica, Arsenal, Club Brugge, Shakhtar Donetsk, and Milan. So far in Pot 3, there are only 4 qualified teams, Feyenoord, Sporting, PSV, and Celtic. There are 3 more spots to be filled. Pot 4 contains Monaco, Aston Villa, Bologna, Girona, VfB Stuttgart, Sturm Graz, and Brest, with 1 more spot. There are also 2 more open spots in Pot 3 and one in Pot 4.

Odds and Betting Advice

So how should the fans prepare when sports betting is concerned? There are more teams to consider, a lot more games to be played, and the stakes have never been higher. Every serious bettor needs to evaluate the new competition system and determine how much they are going to play this time around. The important thing remains to pick the right platform to do so, especially now when frequent data leaks and security issues are dominant in the cyberspace domain.

Of course, the heavy hitters to win it all remain, as per usual, the defending champions Real Madrid. They will look to repeat again after their historic threepeat and win their record-extending 16th title. Manchester City will look to continue their overall dominance and add another major trophy after their 2023 title. These two teams have the best odds to take home the elusive trophy.

According to most bookmakers, it is Man City all the way there with +250 odds. Real Madrid follows close by with +300. England giants Arsenal and Liverpool, as and Bayern Munich from Germany round up the top 5 with +800, +1000, and +1200, respectively. Other potential favorites like Barca, PSG, and Inter are simply not as good at the moment, but who knows? Maybe they exceed expectations and overachieve this year.

Top Scorer Odds

Apart from the outright winners, a popular long-term bet deals with the yearly top scorer in the competition. Last year was particularly disappointing for two reasons. There were two players with the same total, Harry Kane of Bayern Munich and Kylian Mbappe of PSG. However, each only scored 8 goals, the lowest for a top-scorer since Messi in 2010 and Ronaldo in 2008. Before them, in 2023 it was Erling Haaland of Man City with 12 and Karim Benzema for Real Madrid with 15.

This year, it looks like it will be down to the wire due to the sheer amount of games that are going to be played. The records will be broken across the board when goals are concerned. The top scorer race should come down to Erling Haaland and any of the Real Madrid stars like Kylian Mbappe, Vinicius Junior, and Jude Bellingham. The Frenchman has a new club, but his teammates are about just as good as he is, meaning they will probably share the goalscoring load. For a safer bet, you should pick Haaland.

Date and Location

So when does the European season start and where will the final be played? The ongoing qualification stage started on July 9 and it will end on August 28. The real competition starts on September 17 2024 with the final set for May 31, 2025. It is going to be played at the legendary Allianz Arena in Munich, Germany. This is the second time that the competition’s final will be hosted at this famous stadium. The first was in 2012, while 3 European Cup finals were played here too, in 1979, 1993, and 1997.
