A ransomware attack hit the online ticketing platform Vivaticket, disrupting booking services across European museums and monuments.
Cyber Security
Cyber criminals, state-sponsored hackers and even the occasional disgruntled employee are constantly looking to gain unauthorized access for a variety of purposes: theft of money, cyber espionage, personal information for sale or for use in scams, and damage to critical infrastructure for just a few of the most common.
So how does an organization mitigate an entire world full of continual cyber attacks? Just as buildings have a number of necessary elements of physical security: access control, cameras, alarms and so on; there are similar key elements of cyber security that are absolutely vital for just about any modern business.
It starts with identifying and closing the most common doors that attackers use. For example, phishing attacks on employees are far and away the most common initial point of entry. The breach of even a low-level employee account can quickly turn into an escalation in access privileges and the ability to reach sensitive information. This is also true of smart devices, which are generally more poorly secured than computers and phones.
The FBI has declared the security breach of its surveillance system by suspected Chinese hackers a major cyber incident with potential national security implications.
Peacetime — before an attack occurs — is when to plan for disaster recovery and operational resilience. This is where asset dependency mapping will play a critical role in determining an organization’s ability to recover from an attack quickly and fully and emerge even stronger.
While Anthropic has attempted to contain the leak damage with takedown requests, the AI agent's code unsurprisingly spread like wildfire and is now essentially available to anyone willing to look for it. One early development has been promises of the source code as bait via malicious advertisements, but a number of other security and business competition risks loom.
It’s easy to see why network admins are often compared to superheroes – they go above and beyond offering infrastructural eyes and ears, responding rapidly to threats, and providing the backbone of modern business operations.
Hasbro, an American toy manufacturing and entertainment giant, has taken its systems offline following a cyber attack that affected its corporate network in late March.
A security breach at the European Commission has enabled a threat actor to steal hundreds of gigabytes of data from its Amazon cloud infrastructure used to manage the Europa.eu web platform.
A group of hackers widely believed to be supported by Iran's government breached a personal email account belonging to FBI director Kash Patel, which contained material dating from 2010 to 2019. The hackers claimed this was in retaliation for recent FBI operations against them.
As to the apocalyptic "Q-Day" end to every security standard that keeps the internet and cryptographic secrets functioning, the timeline is still not clear. Sooner is obviously better than later in terms of encryption transition, but Google's announcement surprised many who have been working in the quantum computing field.
Fraudsters used Nordstrom’s official email system to promote a crypto scam promising to double funds sent to the scammers’ wallet addresses as a St. Patrick’s Day giveaway.
