U.S. pharmaceutical giant Cencora has disclosed that the February 2024 data breach leaked sensitive patient data, including diagnoses and medications. At least 15 pharmaceutical companies have informed over 500,000 individuals that their information was leaked.
UnitedHealth Group has released further details about the devastating Change Healthcare attack that caused widespread damage throughout the US, taking large chunks of revenue from some care providers and in some cases keeping patients from needed medication. The group has confirmed that it made a ransom payment to restore service.
Officials have warned that the NHS patient data stolen in the University of Manchester cyber attack could become publicly available with potential ramifications. The incident impacted UoM, which holds patient information of 1.1 million patients across 200 hospitals.
Australian Clinical Labs reportedly detected the attack not long after it occurred and was contacted by government authorities in March, and were also notified in June that some of the patient data had been found available for sale on the dark web.
Privacy advocates raised concerns after reports and leaked documents revealed big data firm Palantir working with U.K.’s NHS to analyze patient data and turn it into a data store.
