New FCC rules will essentially force a new set of procedures and checks on the customer service employees that are targeted by the criminal hackers that engage in SIM swapping.
Verizon prepaid customers suffered a SIM swap attack after hackers breached their accounts using the last four digits of their credit card numbers likely obtained via stolen employee accounts.
SIM swap attack is on the rise which includes the recent Twitter hack on their CEO’s account. Attackers used social engineering to convince telco to switch target’s number to their own SIM cards.
