Development automation needs to shift from an almost exclusively technical automation-for-speed perspective to a more business centric perspective of automation-for-balance.
Cyber Security
Cyber criminals, state-sponsored hackers and even the occasional disgruntled employee are constantly looking to gain unauthorized access for a variety of purposes: theft of money, cyber espionage, personal information for sale or for use in scams, and damage to critical infrastructure for just a few of the most common.
So how does an organization mitigate an entire world full of continual cyber attacks? Just as buildings have a number of necessary elements of physical security: access control, cameras, alarms and so on; there are similar key elements of cyber security that are absolutely vital for just about any modern business.
It starts with identifying and closing the most common doors that attackers use. For example, phishing attacks on employees are far and away the most common initial point of entry. The breach of even a low-level employee account can quickly turn into an escalation in access privileges and the ability to reach sensitive information. This is also true of smart devices, which are generally more poorly secured than computers and phones.
The European Central Bank (ECB) has concluded a weeks-long inspection of Euro banks with a warning: preparedness for the AI security risk is not adequate, and more spending on cybersecurity will be required to get up to speed.
Clorox reported a total of $49 million in incremental expenses related to the attack, with Johnson Controls reporting data breach costs of nearly $27 million. This money went to remediation costs such as third party contracting, as well as added operating costs due to disruptions.
Cloud and mobility, including the blurred lines between personal and corporate devices has increased the complexity of identity and access management. Likewise, the surge in the sheer volume and variety of data has contributed to a more dynamic and multifaceted authorization process for enterprises.
Microsoft says Russia conducted a cyber espionage campaign against Ukraine's allies, mainly NATO members, to collect crucial information in parallel with the ground invasion.
36% of Corvus claims were related to fund transfer fraud in Q3 2022, hitting an all-time high and outpacing ransomware for the first time in a long time. Ransomware cyber insurance claims remain the most costly per incident, however.
CISA released its customized Log4Shell scanning solution and a list of other third-party scanners. However, all the Log4j scanners tested by Rezilion failed to detect all file formats.
A recent surge in phishing messages by profit-seeking criminal hackers has been tied to OpenAI tools, but a new report from Microsoft finds that state-sponsored hacking groups are making of use of these new AI abilities as well.
Portuguese energy company EDP suffered a ransomware attack by hacking group Ragnarok who threatened to dump 10TB of stolen data if the company does not pay a ransom of $10.9 million.
The fact that phishing attacks have been on the rise is no secret. One of the most interesting developments is that malicious emails are now being timed to coincide with the "mid-afternoon slump" common to office workers.
