Things to Keep in Mind Before Playing Roulette

Roulette is one of the most popular games in the gambling world. For good reason, as it is simple, easy, and quite fun if you are in the right headspace. The gambling industry continues to attract new fans, which is why it is important to learn the basic roulette terms that every player should be aware of.

Online Roulette

The first one is very simple. With the internet becoming a lot more present in our daily lives, people are looking to it for information as well as entertainment. That is where online roulette, and online gambling in general comes in.

Online roulette is a version of the classic game that you can play on the internet. Whether you are interested in playing on a PC, or on smartphone, you can access the digital version, or even live roulette, and play to your hearts content.

Responsible Gambling

Responsible gambling is something every gambler, not just a roulette player should keep in mind. So, what do we mean when we talk about responsible gambling? It simply refers to making well-informed decisions, and maintaining some discipline when gambling. Below are some tricks to help you maintain a responsible gambling routine.

  • Create a bankroll: creating a bankroll and never exceeding the limit is a good start.
  • Set Boundaries: setting gambling boundaries is also a good way to go.
  • Low Deposits: putting down low deposits is a nice way to ensure that you won’t lost a ton of money if things go array.
  • Self-Exclusion: Finally, self-exclusion practices are a good way to take a break if you think you’ve gone too far.

French vs. American

By and large, there are two major categories of roulette that players need to keep in mind; American roulette and French roulette. While at first glance, the two may look similar, or even identical, there is one major difference that sets them apart.

French Roulette

In French roulette, there are 37 pockets in total. 18 are black, 18 are red, and there is one extra slot, usually colored green and marked by the number 0. This setup has been the roulette board for most of history, and most famous roulette players, like Einstein and Dostoevsky, were familiar with this board.

American Roulette

On the other hand, American roulette has 38 pockets. Once again, there are the 18 red and black ones. However, instead of one additional green, there are two, marked 0 and 00. While it may not seem like a huge departure, the one additional pocket almost doubles the house edge. For that reason, many people prefer the French variant of roulette, as it is a lot more player friendly.

Not a Career

One last thing we have to note is that playing roulette should not be your go-to for making money. Certainly, there are some professional gamblers who play roulette as a career. However, these people have worked tirelessly to get where they are.

For amateurs, it is much better to treat roulette as a fun hobby to be done once in a while, when you have some extra cash to spare. Sure, you may get lucky and win, but that is the point when you should be walking away from the table.
